I’ve been piecing together another reboot of the story as told completely from Cygnus’ point of view and it’s very different from what it originally was, so here goes nothing at a summary of what I have so far. The FT tag is here with some samples of art from it, but also it has a Wiki Page, it’s probably outdated but you can check it out.
A quick summary of the story- FT takes place in a world constantly at war between the Yin and the Yang. The people of the world can use elemental magic: Earth, Fire, Water, and Sky, but then suddenly Dark was introduced. It corrupted anyone who tried to use it and the vicious Yin race was born, too overcome by the element’s power to care about the state of their mind. The war is too old to know the origins, but in the center of it is a curse known as FT. When a Yin and a Yang bear a child it has the painful curse of Fatal Transition and becomes bonded with someone nearby when they are born. The people took this as a symbol that there would never be peace between them, and hatred for the other latched into their being.
Cygnus is running. As it turns out he is too smart for his own good. He knows too much when he discovered that the origins of FT and the Dark Element were not a curse, but a virus created by the first Yin. He begins to realize how corrupted the Yin are and runs to seek out the Yang for help to start a rebellion against their oppression, or find a cure, or do anything he can to help somehow. However, he is bonded to a powerful Yin by the virus, and this makes it difficult to keep a firm resolve on what he knows is right. Or is it? He doesn’t know anymore. So he is running to the Yang capitol, and now he knows that he made a mistake by thinking he could trust his bond by telling him about seeking a cure for the virus. Apparently he isn’t as smart as he thought.

On Twitter Misty asked “wondering where you start when planning a city scene” and I answered “same as any other image, by blocking out the main elements and shapes.” but I decided to just go and block out kind of what I had in mind with how I start since I wanted to do it anyway. I think I’m going to do a proper tut of this later, but I wanted to answer a little more.
Similar to my Akira rough, it just starts out as simple blocks for the composition I have in mind, and then adding on more detail. An image always starts out with your mind though!
How I approach a city specifically…buildings are like people, or any other element to an image. They have character and personality, but in many ways they’re more flexible because they don’t rely on any set groundwork, which is why I LOVE drawing unique backgrounds. (unless you’re drawing something based on reality, but this still remains that you have more flexibility with elements in an image like foliage and scaffolding and blocks of crowds or what have you, than with people who have a set anatomy.)
When doing something very background-heavy it just means that you’re not allowed to ignore it, and that you have to treat it as an equal partner. Value is important especially, because that is what will hold your image together in the end. When adding detail make sure that the detail is always in favor of your main subject. (i.e. having scaffolding, skyline, and bridges pointing to Cygnus and where he’s sitting) Look at real life and see everything that exists around you, there is SO much to play with it’s insane. Be creative! A city is more than just rods and windows, it is vehicles, signs, people, and life! :D

Cygnus from FT~! Thinking of the reboot, Cygnus would be the main character, everything would be from his perspective ONLY, and it would be a lot clearer. Such an easy solution! Felt awesome drawing him again. :) <3

I recently unfollowed quite a few people to clear my dash a bit, and it’s so weird…I’m used to seeing a new pic show up at least 20 times within a few mins of it releasing, now it’s only about 6…haha…it’s so strange. but kinda refreshing too. by the way yeah I’m loving that pic and don’t really mind it showing up at all. Everyone is so Fly. :D <3
posting these quick train sketchies of Lyra from yesterday before I change my mind. I’ve realized that there’s a reason why when I pushed Lyra to be feminine I was failing miserably, so I’m going to embrace her androgynous model look because honestly it just feels right drawing her to be more masculine. I find those types of women and men to be very beautiful. I am increasingly being more vocal in being against gender stereotypes, so I think it’d be cool for my main character to reflect that since there’s nothing I can do about it anyway haha it really is just how she is so there’s no use fighting it anymore. so yeps that’s that. woot!

Anyway it led me to when I posted a WIP of this sketch back in February, but I never posted the finish even though I finished it ages ago because I kept forgetting to post it. LOL of course. XD Enjoy? haha <3

I’ve been thinking a lot about Corono’s redesign since he’ll be in Chapter 2 more and now he’s all grown up. He always was supposed to be very opposite of Zila, and when I found out about this delightful creature a month or so ago, The Maned Wolf, who is neither fox, wolf, nor canine apparently, it was perfect for him. So I am going in that direction but still keeping in mind his original puppy form that you can see in This Page of FT.
Here have some more Previews from Malen Vier! Hopefully I can finish this short and the first Chapter of FT this summer and get it ready to go to print, but like…I have two other projects in addition to those, and also illustrations and that Giza map thing so…HAHA I DUNNO???

Colored an old lineart I had sitting around since July of last year to practice a bit. I was mainly working on site updating and DMV headaches today so I figured it was time to finish this sketch, finally! Only took me a year. haha XD
New website updates: Portfolio Site, with 4 new images. New Tumblr Theme, with a new page linking where I am elsewhere on the internet.
I also did other things today like design a new logo for FT, but they’re not really ready to present…maybe later on in the day. :)
