I figured it was time that there be a collected place on the internet for all of the Checkmate things that Allison and I have posted over the past several months. I’m still working on reblogging everything, but at least the basic setup is there.
For those who haven’t been keeping score, Checkmate is the comic that Allison and I are collaborating on. It’s about intergang warfare in an alternate NYC where magic is exists but is highly illegal.
Aaanyway, it’s also Worldbuilding Wednesday! So, shoot! You guys got any good questions for me about Checkmate? Put ‘em in my askbox, or in the Checkmate tumblr’s askbox!

The verdict on Dustin tea? It manages to be both smokey and tart, and the spearmint gives it a refreshing quality. Would probably taste great iced, it is a rather tasty contradiction! :)
It’s a green tea, but it tastes almost like a flavored black because of the smokey quality the gunpowder tea has. From the bag it smells a lot like potpourri. It’s pretty tarty and energizing, and I probably shouldn’t have had this an hour before bed but I couldn’t wait. You can get some here if you want~<3 haha :p
Anyway I don’t have the money to order this for myself yet, but I’m sure it tastes amazing. Maybe I’ll do others when I know more about the characters and teas, this is actually pretty challenging. :p

old sketches, still figuring out how to simplify Dustin and the art direction of Checkmate…it’s very hard for me to keep consistency. D: Kate is so much easier haha XD
The way I’m thumbnailing Checkmate is new for me but it’s working well!
Basically I did a super rough version of the chapter, and then more detailed drawings of specific scenes and scenarios worked out in cafes and the like to really concentrate on it. Then I made models of the characters and places in The Sims 3 to get an idea of placement and a better feel for the shots. I put all the scraps together, and did a more detailed thumb alongside my notes. Seems like extra work, but it’s been paying off and making things much easier. :)
